Features

New user interface for managing and searching domains

A new user interface is introduced for Domains in the App Board. The new interface is based on level-by-level navigation reflecting the domain tree structure, with pagination for large data sets to cater to setups including large number of domains.

Users can drill down in the domain tree by clicking the relevant domain. Breadcrumbs at the top of the screen provide an overview and navigational control for moving upwards in the domain tree.

When a domain is clicked, an overview of the settings for the selected domain is available at the top of the screen. Buttons to open the edit dialogue for a domain or to delete a domain are available both in the overview section and in the domain listing.

The new user interface also includes a search function that will list matching domains, including their full paths.

Rules editor enhancements

Parts of the rule configuration interface has been redesigned to improve the user experience for the selection of things that the rule will operate on. The layout has been changed to three columns: Thing Types, Domains and Things.

The Things drop down is optionally used, and if no individual things are selected, the rule will operate on all things matching the Domain and Thing Type criteria (i.e. Things of the specified Thing Type that reside in the selected Domain, including its subdomains if any).

Consequently, the Things dropdown will be filtered based on the current selections for Thing Type and Domains.

Additional branding capabilities

The branding section in the App Board can be used to control certain aspects of the look and feel of the user interface, including colors and logotypes. In the new release, the possibility to alter the brand-related part of the string appearing in the browser tab (the “Telenor Connexion”-part of the text that also includes navigational information) has been added.

In a future release, it will also be possible to customize the favicon displayed in the browser tab.

Advanced Permissions (BETA)

Minor improvements and corrections

Minor enhancements and bug fixes are delivered by the new release, including:

  • Added the QR code (linking to a mobile friendly simulator app) for the thing type “Simulator” to the thing overview pane
  • Improved information text describing the possibility to see all events in the events drop down menu
  • Added possibility to right click the “Simulate” button to open the advanced Thing simulation controls in a new window (or tab) and keep the dashboard open in the background
  • Improved handling of access control for users editing dashboards originating in a parent domain
  • Fixed rendering overflow for certain screen sizes in the Data Export and Signup interfaces
  • Fixed issue that the battery icon was sometimes visible even if the thing summary was hidden

Correction release 2.47.1 made on 2019-11-07

The 2.47.1 release was made to correct three UX issues unfortunately introduced in version 2.47.

Thing List

We are improving the Dashboards for Thing Types and Things and during this work we have introduced the Thing List as a separate widget, which can be added to any Thing Type Dashboard. This enable you to create a Dashboard which includes both the list and for example the map of things in one single view, making filtering and navigation easier. It is also possible to create a Dashboard containing only the Thing List widget, if you want the Thing List as a separate Dashboard.

During the improvement work we removed the separate Thing List tab in release 2.47.0. This caused confusion among our customers and we realize the change happened too fast and that some important information was not sufficiently clearly communicated. We apologize for this and introduced a correction in version 2.47.1, which aimed to ease the transition to the new way of using the Thing List as a widget:

  1. A user having permissions to add widgets will see a new button “Thing List” on the Thing Type Dashboard next to the Dashboard selector. This button provides information about the change and a fast way to add a Thing List Widget in the currently selected Dashboard. The button will only be displayed if the Dashboard lack a Thing List widget.
  2. A user without permissions to add widgets will see a new button “Thing List” on the Thing Type Dashboard next to the Dashboard selector. The button will display the Thing List and a message informing about the change from Thing List to Thing List widget. This Thing List will only be displayed if the Dashboard lack a Thing List widget.

These two features will be available for a limited time, approx. 3 months, and when using them the user is notified of this and are encouraged to create Thing List widgets instead of continue using the Thing List button.

Missing icons in the Thing Dashboard

During improving the Thing Dashboard, the icons showing the battery level and signal strength for the Things were omitted. These have been re-added to the Summary part of the Thing Dashboard.

Internet Explorer 11 support issue

Following the release two issues were found when using App Board in Internet Explorer 11

  1. App Board did not load correctly due to a problem with Internet Explorer 11’s handling of JavaScript. This has now been solved by a redesign of the loading of certain libraries.
  2. The new design for the Thing Type Dashboard and the Thing Dashboard used styling techniques not supported by older web browsers. This has been fixed by redesigning with compatible techniques.

Important to note is that Internet Explorer is becoming an old browser and is not recommended for use with MIC. Our aim is still to support IE 11, but recommend our users to move from IE 11. Chrome is the preferred browser to use.

Features

Advanced Permissions (BETA)

Work is ongoing to complete a first official version of our new Advanced Permissions functionality. We will need a few more releases to complete this work and will keep you updated on the progress.

In this release we have added API support to retrieve the domains by level in the domain tree (including pagination support) in all domains trees a user have access to. This functionality is particularly valuable for users having access to multiple domain trees and want to get a complete view of their domains.

Minor improvements and corrections

Minor enhancements and bug fixes are delivered by the new release, including:

  • Fixed issue with uploading of user concent document

Features

New design for dashboard navigation and control

The new release brings an updated design for the buttons and controls used to create, edit, and navigate dashboards (formerly known as View Modes, a term that is no longer used). The redesign have been applied for both the Thing type and the Thing view.

In both views, please note that the add widget button is only available when the dashboard is in edit mode.

In the Thing type view, the upper right corner now contains an updated set of buttons related to thing type; create data export, edit dialogue, delete, and create new things for the thing type.

This section is followed by a collapsible/expandable enhanced meta data section for the thing type, including the fixed fields describing the thing type as well as custom meta data for the thing type.

Following the filter, that is unchanged, follows a dashboard selector on the left hand side, and buttons related to the selected dashboard on the right hand side: The calendar icon sets the date span to be used in relevant widgets (such widgets also displays the selected date span inline), a dashboard editing button, a create new dashboard button, and in the three-dot folder, the dashboard settings dialogue and the delete dashboard option.

The Thing list tab has been removed, but a thing list can instead be added as a widget to thing type dashboards.

The Thing view has a similar layout: In the top-left corner next to the thing type breadcrumb, a dropdown displaying subordinate networked things is displayed, if networked things are available.

In the upper right-hand side corner, buttons related to the selected thing is available: Export data, edit dialogue, and the delete option.

Following the collapsible/expandable meta data section, a dashboard selector is desplayed on the left-hand side (complemented with a nested resources selector, if networked resources are in use). On the right-hand side, controls related to the dashboard is avilable: The calendar icon for the date span, edit dashboard and add dashboard. In the expanded three-dot folder, the dialogues for editing and deleting the dashboard are available.

Added App Board user interface for configuration of rules for individual things

The Rules API includes the capability to configure rules for one or several named things. This capability have now been added also to the App Board Rules configuration user interface. To use the functionality for a new rule, select the domain, thing type, and last but not least, the individual things for which the rule should apply.

The functionality is useful for any situation where a rule configuration relates to a specific thing rather than a group of things, one example being geofence rules tailored to the location where a thing is installed.

New and updated Getting Started Guides

A new getting started guide for the Cloud REST API has been added, and the material related to Node-Red has been consolidated and updated.

Minor improvements and corrections

Minor enhancements and bug fixes are delivered by the new release, including:

  • Error for missing id parameter for event/{id}/acknowledge is not properly handled.
  • Error for adding non-existing thing to thing group is not properly handled.
  • Click thing in a job doesn’t work as expected under certain circumstances.
  • Clicking outside of the create data export modal (or pressing escape) closes it.
  • Table widget does not clear old data when changing resource if real-time is enabled.
  • Issue in App Board when trying to create a rule with two geopoints.
  • Issue with user sorting in the user managment interface.
  • Rule API returns internal server error for non-existing rule.
  • Wrong update date for roles when they are created for the first time.
  • Observation period picker not fully visible when rendered on low resolution screens.
  • Mismatch between docs and implementation for [POST]: /observations/export/jobs
  • Save button not displayed if a long list of Custom fields are added in the resource view of the Thing Types management user interface.
